★ First Impressions 🗡 VISUAL: Link. A tall, pale, long-legged woman with ruby red eyes and very long, thick black hair, which hangs down her back in loose and heavy curls. She is about 40 years old, but hardly shows her age save for a few grays in her hair and lines beneath her eyes. Her build is very slender, but strong, with the grace of a highly skilled swordswoman. 🗡 FASHION: Favors dark red and black, with "tribal" accessories such as beaded necklaces, a scarf and feathers tied into her hair, and a boa of feathers at her hip. Her attire appears to be heavily Asian-influenced. 🗡 DEMEANOUR: Confident, haughty, and ruthlessly sardonic in wit. Raven is careful to project an aloof, unbreakable strength at all times. She approaches many things with an air of condescension, knowing - or at least, believing - that she is more intelligent and more perceptive than most, and unafraid to take action or state her opinions. She can be ruthless but not gratuitously so, saving violence for the situations that call for it - but when it comes to a fight, Raven believes that the quickest way to overcome an obstacle is to crash right through it, and strength is the ultimate determiner of survival. However, she is not reckless. If she assesses a situation and determines that she will not be the winner, she would rather avoid the altercation altogether. As the coolly pragmatic leader of the Branwen tribe of bandits, Raven has justified many decisions that others would find morally reprehensible in the name of protecting herself and her "family" of outcasts, murderers, and thieves. Though she is not skilled and demonstrating her affection for others, Raven nevertheless forms very strong emotional bonds with a select few, which is the basis of her Semblance. 🗡 SOUND: Link. A soft voice that is nevertheless sharp and acerbic. Often biting, sometimes sarcastic, frequently condescending. She has an intelligent, somewhat formal, commanding style of speech that demands attention. 🗡 SCENT: Woodsy and Asian-inspired spices, if she bothers to wear a scent at all. Lingering hints of sandalwood incense, oolong tea, and leather. 🗡 MENTAL INFORMATION: Extremely astute and logical, capable of quick decision-making and clever observations. She is voracious for information and prefers to know exactly what she might be up against in any given situation, even if she isn't directly involved. Nevertheless, many of her actions are motivated by fear and self-preservation. She is careful to hide or disguise her vulnerabilities, however. When it comes to telepathy, mind-reading, and the like, she will have few defenses as these abilities are not common on her world, and moreover she would consider such things a deep violation of her privacy. At her core, she is a very conflicted individual whose strong emotional attachments are at odds with her reluctance to allow or acknowledge any form of weakness whatsoever. 🗡 COMBAT SKILLS: Too many skills, put some of those back. Raven's primary weapon is a katana-like sword, called Omen, with a telescoping blade that can extend to twice its starting length. Omen's scabbard houses a variety of elemental blades which can be rapidly attached, detached, and interchanged for new when they break. Many of her fighting stances strongly resemble iaido. She is quick, acrobatic, able to leap and jump supernaturally long distances, and capable of taking several hits without damage (see "Aura" below). 🗡 MAGICAL INFORMATION: Aura: The manifestation of one’s soul, which can be used defensively and offensively by those who learn to activate and wield it. Aura acts as a barrier to heal minor injury and limit damage from physical attacks, which allows the user to fight and train with live weapons without sustaining mortal wounds. Aura is a limited resource which decreases each time it is used to block an attack. Once one’s Aura “breaks,” the user can be injured like any other human. Kindred Link: Raven’s Semblance, a “personal superpower” which is powered by Aura. Raven can use her Semblance to open a portal between herself and someone she has emotionally bonded to. Often, but not always, she opens these portals with a slash of her sword. Other people can travel through the portal to the person on the other side, as long as she holds it open for them. Thus far, Raven is confirmed to have formed links with a select few: Taiyang Xiao Long, her estranged husband; Yang Xiao Long, her daughter; Qrow Branwen, her twin brother; and Vernal (deceased), her companion and decoy as Spring Maiden. Shapeshifting: Raven was granted the power to transform at will from human to raven form. She once used this ability to travel quickly and covertly to gather information for Ozpin. Though she now resents Ozpin for “what he did to her,” she still uses this ability often to keep tabs on the people she’s interested in. Spring Maiden Powers: The original four maidens were each granted a portion of Ozpin’s immense magical abilities hundreds of years ago, and since then those powers have passed from each maiden unto the woman who was last in their thoughts. After "mercy killing" the previous Spring Maiden, Raven acquired her powers, which have been shown to include several abilities: flight, manipulation of weather and the elements, and the creation of weapons from elemental substances such as fire and ice. These powers are significantly stronger than similar abilities granted by a Semblance and do not appear to be tied to Aura. ★ OOC 🗡 BACKTAGGING: Always and forever! 🗡 FOURTHWALLING: Let's talk first! RWBY canon does involve myriad references to fairytales and mythology that may overlap with other canons, which I'm willing to work with. Otherwise, probably no. 🗡 PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Hard to come by, but not not allowed... 🗡 PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Raven obviously has no qualms with getting violent when necessary, however, her primary interest is in being left alone. 🗡 RELATIONSHIPS: OTA leaning to f/f for anything serious. 25+ age preference. 🗡 OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS/TRIGGERS: Gratuitous or sexualized gore/violence is not my jam, thanks! ★ Permissions Raven's backstory contains themes of violence (including murder) and child abandonment.
